But something isn't quite right... I had some episodes of excruciating and incredibly debilitating pain. This has started me on a journey. I'm confident this is only the beginning, so my husband is actually pushing me to write about it here. From conventional medicine, to TCM and now into Functional Medicine. I'm working on giving my body the tools it needs to fight what caused the pain to appear in the first place. Because I don't want to camouflage symptoms and I especially don't want to live in fear of these unpredictable episodes.
So what does that mean? Right now it means, I've cleared out the pantry/fridge/freezer of dairy, gluten, sugar and alcohol, iHerb is my best friend (no affiliation) and I have a lot of explaining to do to family and friends. During the next few months I will follow the below 4R's in a gut healing protocol (under the guidance of a holistic nutritionist):
- Remove foods that cause inflammation;
- Replace them with supplements that support the healthy functioning of my system;
- Reinoculate my gut with good bacteria - moving from taking probiotics to including fermented food in my diet;
- Repair the lining of my gut through more conscious eating and targeted supplements.
Stress management is an important component to this plan. This is actually the most difficult part for me. I'll address it separately (if at all).
As I said, it's only the beginning of a long journey. One which will hopefully lead me to a healthier, more vibrant version of my self. I'm embracing the changes with a smile on my face! And on that note, I leave you with a song.
I'll make an effort to write soon. Until then, have a happy nice day!
